Shippensburg University - New Performing Arts Center
Wick Fisher White provided MEP design and construction administration services for the construction of a new 70,000 sf performing arts center located at the Shippensburg University campus. The facility included a 1,500 seat auditorium, a grand atrium entrance lobby, backstage support areas, rehearsal studios, and classroom space for instruction in the performing arts. Special design considerations included maintaining stable humidity and temperature control, and good indoor air quality, regardless of the dramatic fluctuations in building occupancy associated with the varying functions of the facility. Exceptional acoustic control was also a primary concern in the selection and design of the building’s mechanical systems. HVAC systems included a new chilled water plant and distribution piping, and a new hot water heating distribution system utilizing a new boiler for summer heating, and the existing campus steam distribution loop for heating during the winter months. Multiple central station air handling units deliver environmental air to varying parts of the building by way of acoustically controlled duct distribution systems.
