The project incorporated requirements from the states’ 'Best Practices for Homeland Security', including isolated emergency command centers, video surveillance, protective design of outside air intakes and major pieces of infrastructure. The school was designed to function as a courtesy shelter to serve the community in the event of a local natural disaster.
