George L. Catrambone Elementary School - New School

Wick Fisher White provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the new 109,000 square foot Elberon Elementary School in Long Branch, New Jersey. The project was completed for the New Jersey School Development Authority, following their “21 Century School Design Manual.” The manual requires the team to provide energy analysis, life cycle costs, day lighting strategies, research on the potential use of renewable energy and LEED certification. The new school, was constructed on the site of an old 50,000 square foot school building, and is a state of the art facility, housing up to 700 students, ranging from Pre-K through 5th grade.

The project included over 40 classrooms with ceiling mounted projectors and in room audio enhancement systems, a small group instruction space, a media center, an art room, music rooms, a kitchen, cafetorium as well as a gymnasium. The project incorporated requirements from the states’ 'Best Practices for Homeland Security', including isolated emergency command centers, video surveillance, protective design of outside air intakes and major pieces of infrastructure. The school was designed to function as a courtesy shelter to serve the community in the event of a local natural disaster.
