School District of Philadelphia - Math, Civics, Science Charter School
Math Civics Science Charter School converted a vacant former Philadelphia warehouse and production facility for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin into a new K-12 Charter School. The project had many variations in scope expansion and contraction, but ultimately Wick Fisher White provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design for renovations to approximately 28,000 sf of space on the first and second floors of the existing buildings as well as a new 23,250 sf addition, consisting of a 15,000 sf, two story classroom wing and a 8,250 sf gymnasium. The mechanical systems utilized localized DX rooftop air conditioning units with electric heat and local control thermostats, to minimize the amount of maintenance required of the limited charter school staff. Our team also designed new lighting that complied with the latest energy codes, modifications to the existing wet and dry pipe sprinkler systems in the existing building, as well as a new wet system for the addition. The project brought a new electric service and distribution, eliminating the original PECO gear from near the turn of the 20th century.
