Ewell Plaza (Lancaster Square)
As part of the City of Lancaster’s initiative to enhance public spaces, Ewell Plaza was created alongside the renovation of the city-owned library and the construction of an adjacent parking garage. Rather than simply re-seeding grass and repairing sidewalks, the city envisioned a vibrant community plaza to bring people together.
Wick Fisher White provided electrical design for the plaza’s lighting and seasonal power, as well as conduit infrastructure for security and sound system devices. A key challenge was the integration of a new cistern for rainwater collection and irrigation, which required extensive coordination between civil, plumbing, and irrigation consultants. Additionally, the utility closet was designed inside the building instead of using a padmount enclosure, requiring close collaboration with base building engineers and careful delineation of contractor scopes across multiple project phases.
This transformation of Ewell Plaza, named after Olympic champion Barney Ewell, exemplifies how thoughtful design can enhance urban spaces and foster community engagement.
