St. John’s Town Center, a premier 200-acre open-air lifestyle center in Jacksonville, Florida, expanded its offerings with the introduction of a new Nordstrom store in 2014. Originally opened in 2005, the center features five anchor stores, over 100 retail shops, luxury apartments, and two hotels. A second phase in 2007 brought additional retailers and dining options, solidifying the center's status as a key shopping and lifestyle destination.

In September 2012, Nordstrom announced its entry into the Jacksonville market with a new two-level, 124,000 SF store, which would anchor a 30,000 SF retail expansion in the southwest corner of St. John’s Town Center. Wick Fisher White was selected to perform the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design for this expansion, as well as to manage the design of site utilities, a networked fire alarm system, sound systems, and the building management system.

Throughout the project, our team worked closely with BHM Architects, civil engineers from England, Thims & Miller Inc., and other consultants, contractors, and owners to ensure a seamless integration of the new facilities with the existing infrastructure. The project required careful coordination to meet the high standards of both the client and the tenants, resulting in a successful expansion that enhanced the overall shopping experience at St. John’s Town Center.

Key Elements:

  • Successfully designed and implemented MEP and fire protection systems for a 30,000 SF retail expansion.

  • Coordinated site utilities and advanced building management systems to ensure seamless operation.

  • Collaborated effectively with all stakeholders to deliver the project on time and within the required specifications.
