Wick Fisher White was engaged to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services for the transformation of a long-vacant elementary school into a modern township library, community space, and local emergency operations center. The 25,000 SF building, located at 464 S. Old Middletown Road in Media, PA, had sat unused for over two decades before this project was reimagined.

The renovation project required the modernization of the building’s infrastructure to serve its new functions. Our team designed all-new MEP systems, including a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) HVAC system, which was selected for its efficiency and suitability for the building’s diverse needs.

One of the unique challenges of the project was designing around areas with exposed ceilings, which required innovative solutions to integrate the new systems seamlessly without compromising the building's aesthetic and structural integrity. Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully, providing the community with a state-of-the-art facility that supports various activities and functions.

Key Elements:

  • Successfully transformed a vacant elementary school into a modern community resource.

  • Designed and implemented efficient and economical MEP systems tailored to the building’s needs.

  • Overcame design challenges posed by exposed ceilings while maintaining the building’s architectural integrity.
